This work looks at the art of storytelling: one of our oldest art forms, dating back to when cave dwellers made their images on the rocks around them. They are not only a source of entertainment but also a method of information transfer. Stories have many branches spreading from a powerful trunk and give us an insight into anthropological studies.Asia is a place replete with stories, from those that pass from village to village, to those that fill the big screen. There are stories of love, of princesses and kings, to those of mystical powers and sacred animals and trees. From the real to the far-fetched, many of these stories have been in existence for many years. Some are still told and some are being forgotten. As I spend my daily life in Asia I see these stories unfolding around me: in Asia there is magic. These works are based on the research of a story, and are derived from my imagination. They are meant to provoke the viewers’ imagination and invite them into the narrative. This kind of storytelling when ones audience is encouraged to input themselves does not come from lack of commitment from the teller, but more from talent and knowledge of when to narrate and when to let go to others ideas out of interest and intrigue. Of course there is a story behind each image, which can be told by me if requested. Storytelling is an essential part of being human, it is something that binds all ages, all nationalities and different groups of people together, and people everywhere throughout history have told stories. They are almost like colourful threads weaving through life to make one gigantic tapestry. The sound of many stories is still very much in its beginning stages and I am excited in the thought of where those threads are going to lead me.
